How to “shrift” – when faced with an obstacle, the unforeseen, the unexpected, learn to bounce back, branch off, adapt, and get around it. “Shriftt,” a neologism coined by Nadia Beugré, is a common practice on the African continent, where citizen-magicians invent their own survival every day. By listening to others, to the music of bodies, to space, but also to the invisible, participants will learn to confront what was not foreseen, to let it go by allowing themselves to embark on other destinations, unknown journeys…
Nadia Beugré is a choreographer and performer based between Montpellier and Abidjan. Born in Cote d’Ivoire, she co-founded the pioneering all-female dance group TchéTché with Béatrice Kombé in 1997, touring widely across Africa, Europe, and North America. After training at Germaine Acogny’s Ecole des Sables in Senegal, Beugré joined Mathilde Monnier’s Ex.e.r.ce. program at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier in 2009. She soon started creating her own works, including the solo Quartiers libres (2012), Legacy (2015), Tapis Rouge (2017), Roukasskaas Club (2019),L’Homme rare (2020) and Prophétiques (on est déjà né.es) (2023).
