VOGUE WORKSHOP & THE WONDAR BALL

VOGUE WORKSHOP

BY MATYOUZ

JUNE 24 - JULY 1ST 2024

AT ASEDEVA - DAR ES SALAAM

Vogue is a freestyle dance form that emerged in the 1980s within New York City’s House club culture. Created by marginalized Black and Latino queer individuals as an act of resistance to mainstream beauty standards, Vogue became a bold expression for reclaiming and redefining their sense of style and beauty through poses inspired by the fashion world. Usually performed on a runway, Vogue balls are both celebrations and competitions, blending fashion and performance categories such as European Runway, Old Way Vogue, and Vogue Femme. At its core, Vogue is more than just a dance; through its culture, it creates inclusive spaces for self-expression and empowerment, particularly for gender minorities across the globe.

Matyouz Owens is an international Vogue performer, commentator and fashion figure. Notorious member of the Paris Ballroom Scene, Matyouz is the Mother of the House of Owens and the first European Double Legend for the categories Hands Performance and Commentator.
