The WONDARLAND project presents an innovative approach to dance and performance art, utilizing these mediums to foster personal transformation and inspire social change. It is a collaborative initiative that harnesses the power of artistic expression to address societal issues and promote individual growth.

Rooted in the belief that the performing arts can catalyze positive change, our project invites artists, community members, and spectators to envision new possibilities for social transformation.

Alliance Française of Dar es Salaam implements this project in Tanzania in collaboration with the French performing arts company Mouvements Migrateurs and Ambassade de France in Tanzania. Tanzanian cultural partners include ASEDEVA, Ajabu Ajabu, Little Theater of DSM, and Altær.

Dance as a Practice of Transformation

Dance is a powerful form of expression that allows individuals to communicate emotions and experiences that might be difficult to put into words. The WONDARLAND project focuses on the transformational power of dance, emphasizing improvisation to encourage personal exploration and creative freedom.

This approach transcends cultural boundaries and aesthetic norms, helping participants connect with their inner worlds, engage authentically with others, and cultivate a sense of agency. As a somatic practice, dance strengthens the body-mind connection, promotes emotional well-being, and enhances physical health. It fosters resilience, reduces stress, and creates an inclusive space for personal expression.

TESTIMONIALS

Wondarland provided an inclusive, safe space where I could create, develop, and perform my poetry. The most transformative aspect was learning to use my body, objects and the space to convey my message. Sharing my story made me feel empowered, it gave me hope that we are seen. It gave me a sense of purpose, and a stronger voice.

The WONDARLAND project has been very impactful in my artistry. It allowed me to move from inside and to tell my story using my own body. My favourite workshop was with Wanjiru Kamuyu because she shook me to dig deeper to find myself. I also enjoyed working with Matthieu Nieto, especially on the Opera Singeli experimental song.
